Justin Timberlake Debuts New Song “Selfish” and Announces Title of Upcoming Album

Justin Timberlake, the renowned pop star, surprised fans at a concert in his hometown of Memphis on Friday night by debuting his new song “Selfish.” This track is his first solo material since the release of his fifth studio album, “Man of the Woods,” in 2018. The R&B song showcases Timberlake’s smooth vocals as he sings about his desire for someone, confessing, “So if I get jealous, I can’t help it. I want every bit of you, I guess I’m selfish.”

But that wasn’t the only surprise Timberlake had in store for his fans. During the concert, he also unveiled a trailer for his upcoming sixth album and revealed its official title: “Everything I Thought It Was.” The announcement came after Timberlake teased his followers on Instagram earlier in the week with the caption “EITIW,” sparking an Easter egg hunt to decipher the acronym.

The album trailer has a distinct Wes Anderson aesthetic, with a model car driving toward a desert gas station. Adding to the allure, it features the acclaimed actor Benicio Del Toro as the narrator. Del Toro’s voice sets the scene as he exclaims, “What do we have here? Ooh, that’s a nice car! Wait, it’s a model. Did that say JT? OK, that sunset is definitely not real. Oh, there’s Justin! Why won’t he turn around? What the f— is he staring at?” The trailer concludes with yellow words against a black screen, revealing the album’s title: “Justin Timberlake Presents: Everything I Thought It Was.”

Fans had been eagerly anticipating new music from Timberlake, especially after he wiped his Instagram clean at the beginning of January. The mid-week Instagram teaser further fueled speculation, and his upcoming appearances on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live (with host Dakota Johnson) only added to the excitement. Although an official release date for “Selfish” has not been announced, fans can pre-save the song on Spotify in anticipation.

This isn’t the first time Timberlake has made a musical comeback. In September, he reunited with his former boy band *NSYNC to release “Better Place” for the Trolls Band Together soundtrack. This marked *NSYNC’s first musical release since 2002. Additionally, Timberlake collaborated with his longtime partners Timbaland and Nelly Furtado on the song “Keep Going Up!” in the same month.

With the debut of “Selfish” and the announcement of his upcoming album, Justin Timberlake has once again captivated his fans with his musical prowess. As they eagerly await the release of “Everything I Thought It Was,” they can revel in the smooth R&B vibes of “Selfish” and anticipate what other surprises Timberlake has in store for them.
