JAKARTA OPPO dominate the Indonesian smartphone market in 2021. They capture a market share of 21.8%. This is the result of research from the Monthly Indonesia Channel Share Tracker released by research firm Counterpoint Research.

Counterpoint tracks shipments of smartphones (from the factory to distributors/dealers), not the number of smartphones sold to consumers.

OPPO serious A contributed a big role in OPPO’s growth during 2021. OPPO Indonesia’s strategy to ensure product availability through offline and online channels also had a positive impact.

In the second position, there is Vivo Indonesia which gets 19.5 percent of the market, slightly adrift with OPPO. Vivo’s growth is driven by a diversified product portfolio that covers all segments. Series Y, for example, continues to record high growth. While the V series in the middle class also received a very good response throughout the year. The X series in the premium class also received positive reviews.

What about Samsung? Samsung Indonesia is in fourth position with 16.1%. Samsung’s performance in 20211 was very good due to their strategy to expand their product portfolio and target the affordable segment. Thus, the Galaxy A series products attract the attention of many consumers.

The biggest drop in device shipments was experienced by Xiaomi, the phone maker hardest hit by supply chain problems. However, Xiaomi can still stay in third position during 2021 with a record 11.4%.

As for realme itself, it is fast enough to enter the top 5 of the mobile phone market in Indonesia.

So, which mobile segment is the best-selling in 2021? Counterpoint noted that cellphones priced at Rp. 2 million to Rp. 3.5 million are the fattest and fastest growing segment. This is because there are many entry-level users under Rp. 2 million who want to get a better device.

How about 2022? Counterpoint said that this year there will be very fierce competition in the flagship class.
Then, the ASP (average selling price) for 5G smartphones will continue to decline.

“Middle-class smartphones with 5G are likely to see an increase in demand this year, as 5G networks expand. We expect single-digit growth in 2022,” said Counterpoint analyst Tanvi Sharma.
