Jussie Smollett explains innocence in case staging attack | NOW

Actor Jussie Smollett declared Monday in court that he is innocent of new charges for setting a racist and homophobic attack on himself. After his statement, the actor was allowed to leave the court without paying a deposit, reports NBC Chicago Monday.

It is not known how and when the current case will take place.

According to the prosecutors, the actor is said to have made false statements about his alleged mistreatment in January 2019. A special prosecutor was appointed to re-examine that case and has formulated six charges against the actor for this case.

In March, all charges against Smollett for making a false report about the alleged mistreatment were withdrawn. The city of Chicago demanded 115,000 euros from the 37-year-old American as compensation for the costs it had incurred for the investigation into the case. Smollett sued the city of Chicago for defamation.

Smollett filed a report in 2019 after he was assaulted by two men on January 29, 2019. While she “Make America Great Again“the men would have put a rope around the neck of the actor and poured a liquid over him.

The Chicago police later claimed that Smollett had staged the attack. In the aftermath of the case, the actor lost his job in the drama series Empire.
