20 minutes – Geneva shows Hypercar from the 3D printer

Czinger is considered an up-and-coming hypercar manufacturer. The special features of the US company include the production of parts from 3D printers. At the Geneva Motor Show, the Californians will soon show their first hypercar called 21C, which was produced using the 3D printing process.

In advance, Czinger will publish technical details of the super sports car, which will be built in Los Angeles and will be limited to 80 copies. The 21C has a 2.9 liter twin-turbo V8 engine with which the car manages 11,000 rpm. Large parts of the chassis of the $ 1.7 million hypercar were produced with the 3D printer.

1250 hp

The drive is a self-developed hybrid train that works with a 2.88 liter mid-engine V8 with a flat crankshaft and two electric motors. The twin-turbo V8 delivers 948 hp alone, the rest is contributed by the electric machines positioned on each front wheel. The 21C has a system output of 1250 hp.

The design is designed for optimal aerodynamics, the doors open like scissors like Koenigsegg. For the 21C, Czinger specifies an empty weight of 1250 kilograms. The Czinger 21C made it from 0 to 100 in 1.9 seconds. And the sprint from zero to 400 km / h should only take 29 seconds.

3D pioneer at work

The vehicle parts from the 3D printer were created in an air-conditioned printing laboratory. They worked with machines that were already in use at Rolls-Royce. Areas with high loads were printed on the 21C with aluminum and titanium alloys. Wherever possible, standard materials and aluminum profiles were used. This gives the hypercar a super rigid structure.

It’s no surprise that company boss Kevin Czinger uses 3D printing for his car. As a co-founder of Divergent3D, a company that focuses on 3D printing in the automotive industry, he knows the advantages this production brings with it. In 2017, Czinger’s company supported Peugeot SA with 3D printed components in the development of a supercar.
