Laurent Petit, the mayor of Morez-Hauts de Bienne (Jura), made a sensational revelation, Wednesday, October 28, during the last municipal council of the town. He announced that the services of the town hall had discovered a treasure in a house that had just been bought by the City, reports The Voice of Jura.
A few months earlier, the owner of Maison Jobez, a large house located a stone’s throw from the town hall, had died leaving only one inheritance. The latter did not wish to keep the house and had offered it to the municipality which had bought it for € 130,000.

Elected officials and department heads had taken advantage of the confinement to empty the house, filled with various objects from the ground floor to the attic. A formidable jackpot was then unearthed, in a room on the second floor. Five gold bars and more than 1,000 20-franc gold coins were found there.
According to a first estimate, the value of the treasure would be around 500,000 €. An appraisal of the archaeological services will soon be carried out to carry out a dating. In the meantime, the loot has been put in a safe place, in a safe. According to a lawyer consulted by the mayor, the treasury belongs to the municipality which has decidedly achieved a good deal.
