Three months. Julie Vermeire (22) was not behind the microphone in NRJ’s morning show for longer. Jacques’ daughter puts her radio career on hold to focus on her television plans. In 2021 she will have her own program on the SBS channels. “The combination with getting up early made it too hard.”

NRJ listeners already noticed: no more Julie Vermeire during the morning show of DJ Michaël Joossens. Since mid-August, she helped present the block on the radio station from Monday to Thursday between 6 and 10 am. The months before, she also popped up weekly with TikTok tips. But now her place has been taken by Jarne Rediers. Program manager Nathalie Delporte confirms Vermeire’s departure from the NRJ morning show.

“When Julie started with us, we agreed that her TV work would always be a priority,” says Delporte. “That is the case now: Julie has plans for television and will focus on that in the coming months. Those two agendas are difficult to reconcile. But it is not goodbye. Julie will remain connected to our channel and will return in January with a weekly item. ”

Meant to be

Vermeire was under a ‘trial contract’ with NRJ until December. To then review her further plans. So it didn’t take that long. Vermeire is currently sitting around the table with SBS, the parent company of channels Vier and Vijf, to discuss various scenarios together. “There are no concrete plans yet, but everything looks good,” says Vermeires manager Thomas Lowette. “Perhaps Julie will have some TV projects of her own next year. That’s why she’s already stopped the morning show. Getting up this early every day takes energy. That is difficult to combine. ”

That Vermeire’s future lay in television work was written in the stars. Already after her victory in Dancing with the stars, at the end of last year, there were offers. Vermeire first completed her studies in Media & Entertainment Business, and did an internship behind the scenes at SBS. Last summer she made her first online series for Vijf, with her own vlog.

“Working in the media really appeals to me”, Vermeire noted. “I feel at home both in front of and behind the scenes. And making television is more fun than sitting with your nose in the books. But the focus was first on school. I know through my dad and from Dancing with the stars that television work is not done in an instant. Then you have to set priorities. If they still want to work with me later, I will certainly consider the offer. ”
