Joshua Jackson: why his wife Jodie Turner Smith decided to give birth at home

Joshua Jackson became a father for the first time in April 2020. While the couple have yet to reveal their baby girl’s name, Jodie Turner Smith has agreed to reveal why she decided to give birth at home.

Having become parents for the first time last April, Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner Smith are on cloud nine. It must be said that the lovebirds have chained the pleasures! In a relationship since October 2018, the duo got married in the greatest secrecy on December 19, 2019 before revealing the model’s pregnancy two days later. If the latter gave birth to a healthy baby girl, she had done everything to ensure that her delivery took place in the best possible conditions. Despite the coronavirus, Joshua Jackson’s wife had decided to give birth at home. A more than considered choice …

In an interview with the British version of the magazine Vogue, Jodie Turner Smith revealed why she did not want to give birth in the hospital: “We had already decided to give birth at home, due to concerns about the negative delivery outcomes for black women in America. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the risk of pregnancy-related death is three times higher for black women than for white women, pointing to racism, it seems to me.“Wanting everything to go as well as possible, the model added:”We never imagined that in the coming weeks, hospitals across the country would start restricting the presence of people in delivery rooms, forcing mothers to give birth without their support person or people of their choice. Giving birth at home allowed me to have what every woman deserves: complete freedom of action to determine my support at birth.

“The creation of a family”

In their Los Angeles home, Jodie Turner Smith suffered for four days before giving birth to their baby girl. If it tired her enormously, the young mother only keeps good memories of this unique period: “Early on the morning of my third day of work, my husband and I shared a moment of calm. I was tired and was starting to lose my resolve. Josh made me run a bath, and as I lay in it, I talked to my body and I talked to my daughter. At that point, he took a picture of me. An honest moment of family and togetherness – a husband supporting a wife, our baby still in me, the sacred process of creating a family.
