Jos Espadero, history of dance

More than 70 people from different generations of teachers and students met yesterday to pay tribute to the Alicante dancer José Espadero. An act that, on Espadero’s next 76th birthday, also served to present the web archive that houses more than 1,000 documents and photographs of the dancer from Alicante.

In this way, before a very excited Espadero, this portal was announced, which will soon become part of the Alicante Municipal Archive “so that all documents are available to all interested people,” said sources from the organization.

Precisely one of her students and dancer of the company, Cristina Alberola, who now holds the position of Espadero at the Conservatorio Superior de Danza de Alicante, has been in charge of compiling all this information that has taken her more than five years of work, and that it also records press articles and hand programs from various archives.

Now, as reported, the priority objective of this web-archive is to include all the videos that have been recovered with performances and other snippets of the history of José Espadero, which until now has not been possible to add due to technical reasons.

At yesterday’s tribute, numerous friends, ex-colleagues and students of José Espadero attended, which was a surprise for the Alicante dancer and a whole day of emotions.

The Alicante-born José Espadero was the creator and benchmark of the first Spanish Dance study plans in Alicante and retired when he turned 60.
