Jokowi Refuses to Pair Prabowo and Son for 2024 Presidential Election

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo or Jokowi refused to pair Gerindra chairman Prabowo Subianto and his son who is also the mayor of Solo Gibran Rakabuming Raka in the 2024 presidential election. Jokowi believes that Gibran has not been able to run because of his age and years of service in Solo, which has only been 2 years.

“That’s logical,” said Jokowi casually, in a press statement at Sarinah Mall, Jakarta, Thursday, May 4, 2023.

At the moment, Prabowo he is still optimistic about running as a presidential candidate for 2024. However, the discourse on pairing Prabowo and Gibran is actually not that prominent. The discourse that is more developed is to pair Prabowo and Central Java Governor Ganjar Pranowo.

However, recently Gibran and Prabowo have visited each other.

On January 24, 2023, it was Prabowo’s turn to visit Gibran at Loji Gandrung Solo. During the meeting, Prabowo supported Gibran in running in the 2024 gubernatorial election. This support was conveyed after meeting Gibran one-on-one.

“He (Gibran) is just right, if it’s me, I’ll see. I support it, I think I’ve always supported it,” said Prabowo. “I said earlier that both (DKI and Central Java) are suitable, both of them will surely succeed,” he said.
