Johnson and Orbán call to “counteract” the Russian destabilization of Europe

London, March 8 (EFE).- British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his Hungarian counterpart, Viktor Orbán, agreed on Tuesday that the “destabilization” of Europe by Russia must be “counteracted”, in a meeting held in London.

Johnson received today in the British capital the leaders of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia – the so-called Visegrad Group -, before the President of Ukraine, Volodímir Zelenski, addresses the deputies virtually in Parliament .

In a statement issued by Downing Street – Johnson’s official residence and office – a spokeswoman indicated that the British chief executive “spoke with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán this afternoon to address the worsening situation in Ukraine.”

During that meeting, both leaders condemned “Russia’s horrendous actions in Ukraine and said that (Russian President Vladimir) Putin must stop his barbaric campaign.”

“In presenting the UK’s plans to be tougher and faster on sanctions, the Prime Minister (Boris Johnson) said he believes it is key for the UK and Hungary to work together on how reliance on gas could be reduced. and Russian oil,” the same government source also revealed.

Johnson and Orbán “agreed that Russia’s destabilization across Europe needs to be countered, including deepening cybersecurity ties between the UK and Hungary,” the spokeswoman said.

The Tory leader also met yesterday with the Prime Ministers of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, and Canada, Justin Trudeau, who urged maintaining unity against Moscow and increasing “political, humanitarian, economic and defense” support for Kiev. EFE
