The last edition of the WWE show NXT in 2020 was marked by an award ceremony – and the hype for the next bigger show, the beginning of the year “New Years Evil”, next week.
Johnny Gargano breaks the curse
In the main fight of the show – how RAW opened with a commemorative graphic for the late Brodie Lee (Luke Harper) – Leon Ruff tried to regain the North American title from Johnny Gargano. In a hard-fought clash, Gargano was able to defeat the lean underdog this time.
Gargano celebrated the victory like a won WrestleMania Main Event, because so far Gargano had lost all his individual titles at NXT in the first defense, he passed them on in the past directly to Adam Cole, Velveteen Dream and Leon Ruff.
Austin Theory, a member of Gargano’s group, reminded “Johnny Wrestling” of this intact curse before the match and thus created uncertainty for the champion. This encounter and Theory’s freestyle to the “Future Star of NXT” indicated that the merger of the two could lead to a break.
Damian Priest and Karrion Kross destroy the arena
Finn Balor spoke to his opponent Kyle O’Reilly ahead of next week’s title match. The NXT champion wants to return the favor next week for O’Reilly breaking his jaw in their last duel and he has been walking around with three plates in his mouth ever since. O’Reilly replied that his aim was to show that he could compete with the best NXT stars and finally climb to the top after 15 years as a wrestler.
Before the situation could escalate, however, the opponents were interrupted by Karrion Kross and his companion Scarlett. When Scarlett commented that the winner of the match was just a placeholder for Kross, Damian Priest suddenly appeared right behind the former NXT champion.
Without one of the opponents being able to gain the upper hand, they fought their way through the arena. In the process, they destroyed plexiglass panes and finally a table through which both of them pushed each other.
