“Johanna gave me strength”

The energetic and very positive actress who plays Johanna Lemeur in Un Si Grand Soleil talks about the series, her pregnancy, her choice to settle in Montpellier with her partner…

That’s it you settled in Montpellier?

But yes, with my darling (comedian Kevin Levy) we took the plunge. We settled north of Montpellier in a beautiful house with a beautiful garden for our dog, we are super happy, it’s a new life full of sweetness. Like a little neighborhood life with the market on Saturdays, we know the traders, the sun is shining, in short, it’s a dream. I have the impression of being in an old movie with the village and its little fountain.

Do you not miss Belgium?

Not at all. I still have my parents there and I go there as soon as I can or it’s my parents who go down south. But to tell the truth, I have already lived in Paris for about fifteen years, so Belgium was already far away.

Is the decision to settle in Montpellier for the needs of Un Si Grand Soleil?

No, let’s say it’s thanks to Un Si Grand Soleil. But the desire to leave Paris is already old. We wanted space and sun and the fact of filming here to have discovered this superb region, we said to ourselves banco! In addition we had the luck we did that just before confinement so we could really enjoy our cocoon. Frankly, we had a problem …

And for the work of your companion, Kevin Levy who is a comedian, is it going well?

But yes, he writes his shows here in a calm environment, he tests them on me who am his first fan and then he will play them in venues in the region and then in Paris where there is his family, who also come down to see us.

Don’t you miss Paris?

Oh no. We can go there with a train or plane for the needs of a casting, a show… it’s super fast and then we go home. In fact, apart from the frame, nothing changes.

How did you get into the Un si grand soleil adventure?

Simply by testing. A casting. For this role of self-confident lawyer with heels, I put on makeup for the first time. I put on my costume and it took. It’s a far removed role from who I am in life, but I told myself pretty quickly that it was for me. And I picked it up.

You play Johanna Lemeur, ambitious lawyer in the series for more than two years, what connection do you have with this character?

We learned from each other. I have used her in my life. She gave me strength of character because I don’t have any particular confidence in myself, I’m quite shy. And I tried to bring softness, my sensitivity to this rather cold character. Toma de Matteis, the producer of the series, told me while introducing me to the role, I would like you to play the character that we love to hate. I have the impression that it worked. Yet my mother did not believe it, she said to me, “you are too nice for this role”.

Let’s talk about your pregnancy, what are the repercussions on Johanna Lemeur?

None. Since I am pregnant but not her. The writers considered including my pregnancy in the series but it turned out to be impossible because Johanna Lemeur had already had a miscarriage. So we find subterfuge not possible so that my little “hack” is not seen on the screen. I have larger dresses, I carry around with files on my stomach. We manage to manage. I did a shoot a few days ago and I have one last one left at the beginning of September.

Is your son’s room ready?

Almost but we are a bit short. I painted with my sister, the furniture has been ordered …

Will it be a little Montpellier?

And yes with the accent. It will decide between his Belgian mother and his Parisian father trendy pied-noir (laughs).

So are you going to take a break from the show for your scheduled delivery at the end of September?

There will come a time when I will no longer fit into the frame (laughs). Yes I’m going to take a break.

When is Johanna Lemeur’s return scheduled?

Two months after my delivery I hope. The writers are very good at it but she will come back even better. I am a kind of electric battery so I think I will resume around the month of December, very slowly.

What next for your career?

I would like to take the time to do a little song, I compose, I have models on hand again. I need courage to go sing them and do small venues in the region. Like any actress, I hope for the role of my life, a great film, an incredible character to defend on a feature film. But I have a role that I love I am never disappointed with the script so I hope to stay a long time. It is incredible luck. And then I invest myself 100%.

Without spoiler, it is rumored that Johanna Lemeur will experience upheaval?

She’s going to take her independence, but I can’t say anything more. You have to follow the series (laughs).

Grease, Aladdin, La Revanche d’une blonde, Cendrillon… At first a dancer and singer, Aurore Delplace has distinguished herself in numerous musicals and operettas. Then the song. After The Voice, season 2 in 2013 and numerous collaborations, the Brussels woman, who has just celebrated her 35th birthday, played in a handful of TV series and films before joining the band of Un Si Grand Soleil in 2019. Premiere appearance in episode 228. Since then, the one who shares the life of comedian Kevin Levy has settled in the Montpellier region and pursues her artistic dreams in both song and comedy.
