Blockage in Maas passed after cargo ships collided | Inland

The waterway has been fully accessible again since 8 a.m., a spokeswoman said. The cause of the accident is not yet known. It involved a tanker loaded with 360 tons of sulfuric acid and a freighter with wire steel that collided with each other. No one was injured. Rijkswaterstaat expects to be busy dealing with the collision until the afternoon.

The ship with sulfuric acid has been towed away and the cargo is being pumped over. No leakage has occurred. The other ship is still at the site of the incident and may be attached to the cable of the ferry. Divers have to look under water to see exactly what the situation is like.

It is possible that the ship can be pulled free and continue on its way independently. That partly depends on the damage to the cargo ship, according to Rijkswaterstaat. The ferry has been taken out of service under water pending the findings.
