JK Rowling and Hera Lind make big leaps

As usual, there was very little movement on the Spiegel bestseller list around the festive period. The front runners have been determined and their place can no longer be contested. These include, for example, Sebastian Fitzek with “Der Heimweg” (1st place, fiction); Dirk Rossmann with “The ninth arm of the octopus” (2nd place, fiction) and Charlotte Link with “Ohne Schuld” (3rd place, fiction). Nevertheless, there was a considerable leap here and there. Harry Potter writer JK Rowling, who writes under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith, does it with her new book Cormoran Strike series “Böses Blut” from 22nd to 8th place. Hera Lind made an even bigger jump. With her novel “The Woman Between the Worlds”, she fought her way from 30th to 6th place. We briefly introduce the two books.

Hera Lind – The woman between the worlds (6th place, fiction)

Growing up as the daughter of a German in Czechoslovakia after 1945 is anything but easy. Young Ella experiences this firsthand. Her mother has to hide with her newborn son in a Czech town, her father fell victim to the fury of the Revolutionary Guards, who beat him to death. Young Ella’s life is always shaped by new strokes of fate: convent school, communism, marriage to an egocentric, and finally psychiatry. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. In Prague, Ella falls in love with the Jewish doctor Milan, with whom she is happy for the first time. Together with their daughter, they only want one thing: a life in the West. But leaving is difficult. The secret service is on their heels.

Robert Galbraith (JK Rowling) – Bad Blood (8th place, fiction)

Under the synonym Robert Galbraith, JK Rowling delivers us the fifth case of investigator Cormoran Strike. Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman who asks him to track down her mother, who disappeared under mysterious circumstances in 1974. It is the first cold case investigation for Cormoran Strike, uncharted territory, so to speak. But the case, which took place over 40 years ago, piques his interest. Together with his work partner Robin Ellacott, Strike decides to get to work. Robin meanwhile has to contend with a divorce; and their feelings for Strike. “Bad Blood” leads through a breathtaking labyrinth consisting of tarot cards, serial killers and witnesses, none of whom appear trustworthy. In the end, it turns out that even decades old cases can still be fatal.
