Manchester United could bring Jesse Lingard back to the first team fold next season and could even offer him a new contract, according to reports.

The 28-year-old is currently on loan at West Ham until the end of the season, where he has rekindled his Premier League career, scoring five goals and recording three assists in his seven Hammers league games to date.

Lingard had previously been frozen by United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he was unable to make a single Premier League or Champions League appearance and was included in only four top flight teams this period.

But according to The Sun, United and Solskjaer have been very impressed with Lingard’s showings on loan and will consider offering him a new contract when his loan period at West Ham ends in June.

Lingard’s current contract at United ends in the summer of 2022, but the Red Devils could be prepared to offer the midfielder a three-year contract to increase his value and give him a chance to impress Solskjaer once again.

The report also claims that West Ham will try to make Lingard’s time at London Stadium permanent starting next season.

David Moyes’ team is currently challenging Europe and is in fifth place, two points behind London rival Chelsea in last place in the Champions League.

Lingard has also been rewarded for his good form in East London with a call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad, having lost his place in the squad following his exile at United.

The West Ham loaner played 90 minutes in the Three Lions’ 5-0 win over San Marino on Thursday and is in contention to start England’s other two qualifying games against Albania and Poland in the coming days.

Lingard recently claimed that he has been driven by his spell at West Ham and that he is solely focused on trying to bring the Hammers to Europe next season.

The midfielder told the FA this week: ‘It’s a bit like a new life. I moved to London, which is different, a different group of guys; all the boys are brilliant in West Ham, they’ve welcomed me with open arms.

‘The staff have been great and the whole club, the whole setup is really good. I’m playing week after week and I’m doing something that I love, so for me, it was perfect. As you say, it is a new life.

“It’s just about believing and doing well for West Ham – scoring, helping, winning games, and I think you obviously know that’s what guarantees me a spot here, just being in shape.

“When I was loaned to West Ham, I had a lot of written goals. Some I’ve already got it right and I’ll continue like this for the rest of the season, so it’s just about having the right mindset and the right approach: coming to West Ham and trying to help the team, trying to fight for Europe, and me too. they have individual goals. ‘
