Jenifer was suddenly propelled into the world of showbusiness thanks to her participation in the “Star Academy” in 2002. Big winner of the show, she became the “little sister of the French”, who grew up with her. Its popularity attracted the attention of the media, but also the tabloid press and the paparazzi. The singer therefore frequently made the front page of celebrity magazines, which weighed on her morale. A few years ago, one event in particular made her a target.

“I woke up with a very sudden shock”
In March 2017, while Jenifer was returning from a concert, the van transporting her hit a car stopped on the highway. This accident caused the death of two people on board the hit vehicle, slightly injured her but above all left a lifelong mark on the singer, who also had to face hatred emanating from social networks, and was once again hounded by the paparazzi.
“I was sleeping. I woke up with a very sudden shock. We were driving fast, it was a highway, the car we hit was dragged for meters. And then, I saw images that I didn’t “shouldn’t have seen. We waited for help for a long time, it was one of the longest nights of my life,” she told Pure TVin October 2018.
Some time after the accident, a tweet, posted on his official account, caused controversy: “We were incredibly lucky. All our thoughts are with the victims and their families.” On camera, Jenifer denies having written this tweet and confirms that it was written by a member of her team. “You didn’t validate this tweet before it was sent?” we ask him. “I no longer had any concept of time, of anything, I didn’t take care of it. But I don’t hold them responsible for that, I was stunned. I came home, I had my children, I had to that I’m here.”

Following this tragic episode, the singer decided to cancel the rest of her tour: “I was completely broken. I no longer had the courage to go back on stage. (…) I came to the point of almost feeling guilty. ‘What if I hadn’t been a singer, what if I hadn’t been on stage, what if we hadn’t taken this van?’ With ifs, you can rewrite a lot of things.” During his travels, the artist thinks back to this accident, which left him with some after-effects: “We can’t sleep, and then as soon as the brakes hit… It’s special, but life goes on.”
“We hear about her, but it’s my sister who died!”
On social networks, Jenifer has to face many violent comments: “I received a lot of hatred.” Some Internet users did indeed criticize the singer for “existing”.
Criticism also came from relatives of the victims. The family of the young woman who died in the accident was particularly virulent. “With her leg injury, she is so pitiable… We hear about her, but it’s my sister who died!” even said the victim’s brother, interviewed by Public magazine.
However, other people close to the deceased young woman have tempered things. In the columns of Télé Star magazine, another person from the victim’s entourage explained that they had taken a step back from the situation: “The day of Claire’s death, we were on the verge of anger, of incomprehension . But in the end, we know that she has nothing to do with it. I read that people were attacking her. As well as us.” A beautiful declaration which undoubtedly allowed Jenifer to move forward and write a “New Page”, the name she gave to her eighth album (2018), as a “therapy”.
