Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe assassinated in Nara

In the Japanese city of Nara, an attempt was made on the life of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The politician was making a speech, as during the speech he was shot in the back by an unknown person.

Abe reportedly lost consciousness after two shots. The former leader of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party spoke as part of the campaign for elections to the House of Councilors scheduled for Sunday.

According to preliminary information, the ex-premier had both lungs affected. After being shot, he fell to the ground and was taken to the hospital by air ambulance.

The police arrested the attacker at the scene. The shooter turned out to be a 40-year-old resident of the city of Nara.
