Jannik Sinner is the fashionable man in tennis. He reaffirmed it at the Miami Masters 1000, by adding his third title of the year after beating Grigor Dimitrov 6-3 and 6-1, who returns to the top ten. The Italian will also advance in the ranking up to second place, ahead of Carlos Alcaraz and with his sights set on Novak Djokovic.

The 22-year-old won in just one hour and 13 minutes and won his first trophy in the Florida city, where he had lost two finals, in 2021 and 2023.

Sinner, who won in Australia in January and the ATP 500 in Rotterdam in February, confirmed his incredible start to the season with 22 wins and one loss, suffered against Alcaraz in the Indian Wells semifinals.

In front of him came a reborn Dimitrov, whom Sinner had beaten in their two meetings last year, in Miami and Beijing. The Bulgarian, one of the last tennis players with a one-handed backhand, at 32 years old is experiencing a second youth.

Gone were the comparisons with Roger Federer and the feeling that he never quite met the enormous expectations generated by his talent. In Florida his game was close to perfection in some matches, such as in the quarterfinals in which he defeated Alcaraz.

Dimitrov knew that against Sinner he had to impose his game and prevent his rival from settling on his baseline. So the Bulgarian started strong with two shutout games on serve and was aggressive, hitting the ball very early.

The bet seemed to work by giving him the first ball of break in the third game. But Sinner is pure cold blood. In the blink of an eye, he shook off the break point and, in the next game, he was the one who broke Dimitrov’s serve with a big parallel forehand.

Grigor fought, but Sinner broke him again with a huge passingshot parallel backhand to seal the first set 6-3.

Sinner followed his script, deep shots. In the end he finished his work with a final blank service game to make it 6-1.
