Journeyman painter took 1st place in the national performance competition, the third Rhine-Main winner in five years

The German master painter comes from Hesse again and is called Janick Mensinger. After his success in the state performance competition, the journeyman painter from the Mensinger paint workshop in Frankfurt has now won the national performance competition, which took place on November 14 and 15 in Nuremberg. After Jessica Jörges (painter Schmidt, Dreieich) and Jacqueline Kuhn (paint studio Mensinger, Frankfurt), Janick Mensinger is the third national winner in the ranks of the painters’ and varnishers’ guild of Rhine-Main in five years. The two painters topped the podium in 2018 and 2019. With the victory, Janick Mensinger is now part of the national team and has the chance to qualify for the Euro Skills in the next stage.

“Congratulations to Janick Mensinger on his success! Congratulations also to the Mensinger company, which provides great support to its apprentices in realizing their talent,” says Felix Diemerling, foreman of the painters’ and varnishers’ guild Rhine-Main. “But the outstanding achievements of our young painters in the last years also show us that our training offensive is paying off.” For example, in parallel with his practical training, Janick Mensinger has offers such as the Monday painting course in the training and further education center of the Frankfurt guild took part .

From the best of the guild to the national winner

Janick Mensinger completed his practical training, which he completed in the family business of the Mensinger painting workshops in Frankfurt, this spring as the best in the guild. He had thus qualified for the state competition for painters and in September he could compete with the talents of the other Hessian guilds. Following his state-level win, the 20-year-old has now met state winners from 13 other federal states in the national performance competition.

Seven women and seven men test their craftsmanship in a hands-on competition. The task was already pointing in a certain direction, namely to Gdansk, where next year’s European championship, Euro Skills, will be held. So the wall surfaces had to be designed according to a certain concept, which also includes the inscription “Gdansk 2023”. The performance show was completed by a speed contest in which hand skills had to be demonstrated under time pressure.

The training offensive: from candidate week to double studies

The recruitment and promotion of young talents is one of the main themes of the painters’ and varnishers’ guild of the Rhine-Main. In recent years, it has developed various formats and sizes for this purpose. It offers an extensive seminar program, which also includes courses for apprentices and young painters as well as offers for young talents. In the spring, invite interested young people to candidate week to introduce them to the paint and varnish trade and to bring them together with companies. A few years ago, it launched a dual studies program with the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences, which combines civil engineering studies with an apprenticeship. The guild also supports training companies and works closely with vocational schools and career guidance centres.
