Jan Smit angry at RTL Boulevard: ‘They cut everything up!’

Jan Smit is not happy that his interview with RTL Boulevard has created the impression that he is at odds with his sister Monique Smit. “They cut out what suits them best,” he bellows.

For a long time Jan and Monique Smit worked together on the children’s project De 2 Kleine Kleutertjes, but suddenly she was pushed aside by him. When Jan was asked about this two weeks ago by RTL Boulevard, he reacted ice cold. “She wished me the best of luck and I wish her the best of luck.”

The experts of RTL Boulevard reacted bewildered after the item. “Ooh, this feels a little awkward,” Eddy Zoëy commented. And show expert Eric de Munck was unrelenting: “He just talks coldly about his own sister. I think that’s pretty tough to see. Just chill and cold.”

Weekend boss Bart Ettekoven even later: “The fact that you don’t even follow each other on Instagram… And it’s gone wrong before, hasn’t it? In 2007 they also had no contact for a long time and then Monique did not know why. It now seems to be pretty bumbling again. At least, not very pleasantly.”

Jan angry

Jan now appears to be quite pissed off on RTL Boulevard. He tells to De Telegraaf: “You often have an interview of half an hour or 45 minutes and they cut out what suits them best of course.”

So there’s no arguing? “What I said: Monique started making Kleuterpop independently two years ago and she didn’t ask me for that and that’s fine and that was actually my answer. For the rest, it was our daughter Emma’s birthday last week and Monique’s children were still at my house with Martijn…”

Others away

Monique’s children were there and so was her boyfriend Martijn, but not Monique herself? That does sound a bit weird. “People like to make something bigger than it is, but when this project came along I chose other people because basically every character came to life.”

Then irritated: “It’s not always the case that when you’re family you have to do everything together? We have had many great successes, we get along normally, but you don’t necessarily have to work together. If you think differently about that or you choose a different path, people often think something of it, but I don’t think that’s so important, what other people think.”

‘That’s it!’

Jan emphasizes not to be at loggerheads with his sister. “Absolutely not. No, but we don’t work together anymore. That’s it. We can go on talking about it for another two hours, but it won’t be more. People really want you to always give your opinion or comment on something. I know how it is, Monique knows how it is and that’s it. It’s not all that exciting.”

And is he furious on RTL Boulevard? “I know how it works and I know what comes of it. That’s what they’re there for, isn’t it, Boulevard?”

Monique responds

And what does Monique say? “There is no arguing! That’s what people want, I think. Three years ago I chose to start Kleuterpop myself because I really wanted something for myself and no longer wanted to be dependent on others. Happy with great success!”
