A surprise in Białystok

A big surprise in Białystok, where Jagiellonia, the leader in the football top league, lost to Cracovia, which is fighting for relegation.

After losing a key defensive player, the Białystok team did not manage to rebuild their defense immediately and the equalizer was scored shortly afterwards. Kallman played from the end line into the Jagiellonia penalty area, unattended Michał Rakoczy scored a goal to make it 1-1.

A minute later, Patryk Sokołowski was close to scoring a goal as he tried to lob Jagiellonia goalkeeper Zlatan Alomerovic, but the ball hit the crossbar.

The guests took the lead

In the 25th minute, Cracovia took the lead. Once again, the hosts made a defensive mistake and were not guarded Arttu Hoskonen headed the ball into the net from close range. After a long VAR analysis (offside position was checked), the goal was allowed.

Cracovia kept creating new opportunities and only thanks to the attitude of their goalkeeper, Jagiellonia did not lose any more goals. In the 39th minute, Alomerovic saved a shot from a few meters by Patryk Sokołowski, and a few minutes later – a strong shot from a distance by Otar Kakabadze.

Pululu misses a penalty

In the added time of this half, referee Raczkowski looked at the VAR recording of the situation in the penalty area and concluded that Nene was fouled there. Pululu took the penalty kick, but Madejski saved both his shot and Jesus Imaz’s follow-up.

Second half of the match

After the break, Jagiellonia immediately attacked. After Dominik Marczuk’s action on the right side and the ball being deflected by one of the defenders, the ricochet hit the crossbar of the visitors’ goal. But after their counterattack they increased the score. Patryk Makuch coped with Jagiellonia’s defenders, played flat from the end line and a Jani Atanasov only completed the formalities with a shot from close range. After this action, Cracovia was leading 3:1.

Although Jagiellonia had control of the ball, they did not create any scoring opportunities; there was no idea how to deal with the guests’ defense, it was obvious that some players lacked strength. However, Cracovia had further opportunities. In the 63rd minute, Mateusz Skrzypczak was close to an own goal, but Alomerovic saved his team again. In the 68th minute, the Serbian goalkeeper won a one-on-one duel with Mikkel Maigaard.

On the other side, Madejski saved a shot into Pululu’s short corner, and in stoppage time – a shot from the center of the penalty area by Imaz.
