KONTAN.CO.ID – JAKARTA. Self Service Repair. This is the name of the newest program for customers unveiled by Apple. As the name implies, through this program, Apple device users will be able to repair their own devices without the need to go to an authorized repair place.
With this self-service method, Apple product users will be able to obtain authorized parts, repair tools, and repair guides directly from Apple.
Previously, Apple authorized parts and equipment for device repair could only be obtained by technicians at Apple Stores, Apple Authorized Service Providers (AASP), or Independent Repair Providers located in a number of countries. This program will only run in 2022.
The plan is to start this program in the United States and gradually expand to other countries. In the first phase, spare parts and repair kits will be available for iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 devices. Later it will also be available for Mac computers with M1 chip.

At this initial stage, there are three types of spare parts that Apple will offer through the Self Service Repair program, namely the iPhone screen, battery, and camera. Meanwhile, other types of improvements will be added gradually until the end of 2022.
However, it has not been explained how much the user has to pay to get the three types of spare parts.
“Giving access to genuine Apple parts will give our customers more options if repairs are needed,” said Jeff Williams, Apple’s Chief Operating Officer.
This program is actually intended for users who do have experience or knowledge about repairing electronic devices.
