Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The government expressed its disappointment with Thailand and Japan, especially regarding the opening of tourism to investment placement.
The reason is, Thailand has now reopened tourism to 38 countries, but Indonesia is not included in it. While regarding the placement of investment by Japan, Indonesia expressed disappointment because the country prefers Thailand to be a place to invest in hybrid car assembly.
The Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, publicly expressed this disappointment when closing the “Autonomy Expo 2021 Application”.
“I’m not anti-foreign, but I was a little annoyed in the car, Thailand just announced 38 countries may enter the country, there is no Indonesia. If I see it, many countries are handling Covid-19 much worse than us, Malaysia and others , we don’t, what does that mean? They’re not fair to us,” explained Erick when closing the 2021 Autonomy Expo, quoted on Saturday (23/10/2021).
Thailand has just announced tourists from 46 countries to enter without quarantine starting November 1, 2021, provided that tourism actors have been vaccinated.
Some of the countries included are Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Singapore, Australia, China and the United States. However, Indonesia is not included in the list of countries that are allowed to enter the country.
According to him, this will be a record in the future in policy making. Erick emphasized that although Thailand and Indonesia are neighbors, the concept of business to business need to be carefully considered.
As for Japan, he also felt disappointed because Thailand was chosen as an investment place for hybrid cars. In fact, so far Indonesia is the largest market for Japanese cars.
“So far they have boosted our car market, which is the largest in ASEAN, which has received huge investment from Japan for their hybrid cars [Thailand]. It’s time for us to do the calculations with other countries,” he said.
