It is determined how many self-diagnosed diagnoses through Google turn out to be correct.

As follows from the work of scientists at Edith Cowen University, only a third of online checks are accurate. Researchers analyzed 36 international mobile and web systems for symptom testing. It turned out that they give the right diagnosis the first time in only 36% of cases. And with several times – in about half the cases.

Much more accurate were the advice of the systems about which doctor should be consulted. In 49% of cases, such recommendations turned out to be true.

The press release, written on scientific work, also notes that about 70,000 health-related requests are recorded every minute in the world. The authors of the study warn: the search results are more likely to mislead a person and give a false sense of security, while the health situation can be serious.
