Israeli Soldier Killed in Ground Attack on Gaza by Hamas

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Israeli military said one of its soldiers was killed by an anti-tank missile reportedly fired by the Palestinian Hamas group. This happened during a ground attack on the Gaza Strip by the Israeli army, Sunday.

“One Israeli soldier was killed, while one person was moderately injured, and two people were slightly injured as a result of being hit by an anti-tank missile,” the Israeli military said in a question as quoted by Al Jazeera.

The Israeli military said the aim of the attack was to find Hamas prisoners in the Khan Younis area of ​​Gaza. This is also to “thwart terrorist infrastructure”.

Israeli troops themselves have carried out raids across the border to clear the area. They gathered intelligence about prisoners held by Hamas.

Meanwhile the Qassam Brigades, Hamas’ armed wing, announced on their Telegram account that they had pushed Israeli troops back into the country. The same media report said the attacks forced Hamas to prepare for a long-speculated ground invasion by Israel.

“Israel’s attempts to enter the Gaza Strip are like this [sedang] confronted by Palestinian fighters, who were trying to prepare for a possible ground invasion of the besieged territory,” according to the media.

The report added that the situation on the ground was “very dramatic”. Meanwhile security conditions in the Gaza Strip are “unpredictable”.

The incident occurred as Israel continued bombing the Gaza Strip for more than two weeks. This was in response to Hamas’ sudden attack on Israel on October 7.
