Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s Response to Ceasefire Pressure from French President Emmanuel Macron in Gaza Conflict

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia Israeli Prime Minister (PM) Benjamin Netanyahu has again opened his voice about a ceasefire in his war against the Gaza Palestinian ruling militia, Hamas. He said this after pressure from French President Emmanuel Macron to stop attacks on Gaza.

Previously, Macron in an interview with the BBC said there was no justification for Israel to bomb babies, women and the elderly in Gaza. He hopes Western leaders will join his call for an immediate ceasefire.

“This is very important for all of us because of our principles, because we are a democracy. It is also important in the medium to long term for Israel’s own security, to realize that all lives matter,” Macron told the BBC.

“We reject the notion that the best way for Israel to protect itself is to carry out massive bombing of Gaza. That creates hatred and bad feelings in the region.”

Netanyahu responded to Macron’s views by describing Hamas as the party responsible for the deaths of civilians in Gaza due to his country’s attacks. He said Hamas used schools, mosques and hospitals as terror command centers.

“While Israel does everything not to harm civilians and asks them to leave the fighting area, Hamas-ISIS does everything to prevent them from leaving the safe area and uses them as human shields,” Netanyahu said in response to Macron as quoted by First Post, Saturday (11/11 /2023).

“The crimes that Hamas-ISIS committed today in Gaza, tomorrow will be committed in Paris, New York and throughout the world. World leaders must condemn Hamas-ISIS and not Israel.”

Escalation in the Gaza area continues to increase after Israel bombarded the area sporadically. This was done by Tel Aviv to destroy the Hamas group, which attacked the Jewish State on October 7 and killed 1,400 residents.

Even though it claims to target Hamas, Israel’s attacks have in fact caused great damage to civilians. So far, the number of civilian victims killed in Gaza has reached at least 11,000.

Meanwhile, Israel faces increasing pressure, including from its main ally the United States (US), to do more to protect Palestinian civilians in Gaza as the death toll rises and fighting escalates between Israeli forces and Hamas militants near and around hospitals. .

Israel’s efforts to wipe out Hamas in response to the October 7 attack will also likely only result in further radicalization. This was conveyed by the UN special rapporteur for the occupied Palestinian territory, Francesca Albanese.

In an interview with the Guardian, he explained that the international community was reaping heavy consequences for not paying attention to the concerns of those who criticized Israel’s “systematic repression of Palestinian human rights”.

“We warned the international community, the human rights community, but no one really listened,” Albanese explained.

“Now it has reached a dangerous point where the chances of peaceful coexistence have plummeted. In fact, we are staring into an abyss.”
