Israeli Attacks in Gaza Leave 382 Wounded in 24 Hours, Ministry of Health Reports

382 people have been wounded in attacks in the last 24 hours, according to the Ministry of Health in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip.

In total, at least 54,918 people have been injured in Gaza since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out over eleven weeks ago.

Israel has stepped up its attacks in recent days. Between Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, around 250 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks, according to the ministry.

Over 100 Palestinians are said to have been killed in the Maghazi refugee camp on Christmas Eve, according to information from the AP news agency.

Several thousand Palestinians are also missing and believed to be buried in the ruins.

The healthcare system in Gaza has been badly affected by the war, and the authorities have long since given up trying to keep a complete list of the dead and wounded. The Ministry of Health does not differentiate between civilians and combatants in the statistics. But in mid-December, the ministry stated that there were around 8,000 children and over 6,000 women among those killed.

Some have claimed that the casualty figures are exaggerated and call them Hamas propaganda. The UN does not agree and believes that the number of people killed in Gaza is even higher than what the Palestinian authorities have stated.
