Josep Borrell issued that dire warning during his visit to Lebanon. The European Union’s top foreign policy chief fears that many more countries will become involved in the war.

While he was there in Lebanon, several parties carried out attacks on Israel. The country also responded with rocket attacks, but more about that later in this overview.

Because Borrell mainly warned the Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati. The country already appears to be heavily involved in the conflict between Hamas and Israel, and the EU top executive hopes to prevent further escalation. Hezbollah itself already reported rocket fire at the Israel observation post

Hezbollah reported on Saturday morning that it had fired 62 rockets from Lebanon at an Israeli army observation post. It is said to be a response to the death of a Hamas leader. Israel reports that it has observed about 40 rocket launches.

Israeli forces are said to have counter-attacked after the launches from Lebanon. Air raid sirens went off in northern Israel.

Hezbollah says its attack is in response to the death of a Hamas leader. Saleh Al Arouri was killed on Tuesday, January 2, in an Israeli drone strike on the southern outskirts of Beirut. He was killed in the Dahiyeh district, known as a Hezbollah stronghold.

Israel also under attack from other groups in Lebanon

Not only Hezbollah fired rockets into northern Israel on Saturday, the Sunni Jama’a Islamiya also reported attacks. The group fired two series of rocket attacks from Lebanon.

No reports have yet been received from Northern Israel about possible victims.
