According to Information Analyst Apple Jeff Pu, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max will offer 5x optical zoom, up from 3x on the current model. Apple should be currently in negotiations with Lante Optics to produce a periscope zoom lens. The latter company is likely to supply more than 100 million components to Apple if a deal is reached.
Apple has reportedly received component samples from Lante Optics and looks set to reach a final decision in May. Periscope zoom is a feature upgrade for the iPhone as it allows for longer distance zooms than standard telephoto lenses like those found on today’s iPhones.
Reported Tech Radar, Friday (21/1), most of the leaked information about the periscope zoom coming to the iPhone 15 Pro is not yet known about the specific zoom distance. According to recent reports suggest that the iPhone 15 Pro will only be capable of having a 5x optical zoom.
It’s not a huge jump on the 3x optical zoom that Apple’s top phones are already capable of. While it may work well for portrait photography, it won’t be as useful as the 10x zoom for photographing wildlife and other distant subjects that cannot be approached easily. For example, high detail on buildings or ships out at sea.
