Iranian Embassy and Consulate in Saudi Arabia to Reopen After 7-Year Hiatus.

(CNN) — Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani announced, on Monday, that the reopening of the Iranian embassy in Riyadh, the Consulate General in Jeddah, and Iran’s permanent mission to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation will officially take place on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Kanaani added, in statements reported by the Iranian News Agency (IRNA), that the resumption of activity at the Iranian embassy and consulate general “comes within the framework of bilateral agreements between Iran and Saudi Arabia regarding the restoration of relations between the two countries.”

He added that both the Iranian embassy in Riyadh and the consulate general in Jeddah “have already started their activities, before the Iranian pilgrims went to Saudi Arabia, in order to facilitate travel procedures for them, provided that the doors of both are officially reopened in the presence of officials of the foreign ministry of the two countries.”

Saudi Arabia and Iran announced in March that they had agreed to restore diplomatic relations after 7 years of hostility.
