TEHRAN – Iran’s intelligence minister warned Saudi Arabia that there was no guarantee that Tehran would continue what it called a patience strategy, IRNA news agency reported.

“In the case of Saudi Arabia, I say that our fate and that of other countries in the region are tied together because of our environment. From Iran’s point of view, any instability in the countries of the region is contagious and any instability in Iran it can be contagious to countries in the region, “Iranian intelligence minister Esmail Khatib said, quoted by IRNA.

“Iran has so far adopted strategic patience with strong rationality, but provides no guarantee for the continuation of this strategic patience if hostilities continue. Undoubtedly, if the will of the Islamic Republic of Iran is granted to take revenge and punish these countries, the glass palace will collapse and these countries will see no stability, “he added. This is the second time that an Iranian official has used the term “glass palace” to refer to the leadership of Saudi Arabia. A few weeks ago, Iran had issued veiled threats and warnings to Saudi Arabia, when the commander-in-chief of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards, Hossein Salami, said that Saudi leaders should not rely on Israel, adding that Saudi leaders live in “glass palaces”.

The Iranian intelligence minister’s warning comes amid heightened tensions, following a Wall Street Journal (WSJ) report that Saudi Arabia shared intelligence with US warnings of “impending attacks” from Iran on goals in the Kingdom.

The report added that Saudi Arabia, the United States and other neighboring countries in the region have increased the level of vigilance for their military forces.

Washington expressed concern over Iran’s threats to Saudi Arabia and said it would not hesitate to respond if necessary.

“We are concerned about the picture of the threat and remain in constant contact through military and intelligence channels with the Saudis,” said a spokesman for the National Security Council.

“We will not hesitate to act in defense of our interests and partners in the region,” he added.

Iran itself is currently experiencing a wave of massive protests across the country triggered by the death of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the moral police. The Iranian regime accuses foreign countries of inciting unrest in the country and encouraging protesters the regime calls “rioters”.
