[아시아경제 조유진 기자] Iran reported to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) plans to raise its uranium enrichment concentration to 20%.

According to foreign media on the 1st (local time), the IAEA issued a statement on the day and said, “Iran, according to a law recently passed by the Parliament, the Iranian Atomic Energy Agency (AEOI) installed a maximum concentration of 20% of low-enriched uranium (LEU) at the Pordo Enrichment Facility (FFEP). ) Reported that it would produce it.”

This greatly exceeded the enrichment limit limited by the Iranian nuclear agreement (JCPOA, Comprehensive Joint Action Plan), and did not mention when the enrichment activity would begin.

The Iran nuclear agreement was signed by six countries, including the United Kingdom, France, Germany, the United States, Russia, and China, with Iran in 2015. Iran gave up nuclear development and six countries lifted economic sanctions against Iran. .

However, in May 2018, when US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the nuclear agreement and restored sanctions against Iran, Iran has taken steps to reduce the scope of its implementation.

According to a report released by the IAEA in October last year, Iran’s uranium enrichment concentration was 4.5%, exceeding the nuclear agreement limit of 3.67%.
