“Iran Thanks Saudi Arabia for Assistance in Evacuating Citizens from Sudan”

Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (CNN) — Iran thanked Saudi Arabia for its assistance in evacuating Iranian citizens from Sudan.

“I thank the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its decisive humanitarian work in helping to transfer 65 Iranian citizens from Sudan to the port of Jeddah and from there to the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani said at his weekly press conference.

The Iranian Chargé d’Affaires to Saudi Arabia, Hassan Zarnarkar, thanked Saudi Arabia in an interview with the official Saudi TV, Saturday.

A video clip broadcast by the Saudi Al-Arabiya channel, on Saturday, showed the commander of the western region in Saudi Arabia, Major General Ahmed Al-Dabis, speaking on a plane with Zarnarkar.

“It is your country. If you need anything from Jeddah or Saudi Arabia, you are welcome. Iran and Saudi Arabia are brothers,” Al-Dabis said.

Iran and Saudi Arabia – rivals who severed diplomatic ties in 2016 – agreed to restore diplomatic ties after talks in Beijing in March.
