Iran summons the French ambassador after the foreign minister’s “unacceptable” words

TEHRAN, Nov 30 (XINHUA) – The Iranian foreign ministry on Wednesday summoned the French ambassador to Iran Nicolas Roche following “unacceptable” remarks made by the French foreign minister to the National Assembly.

The Iranian side present at the meeting strongly protested against the “unfounded accusations” of French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna, and denounced the double standards of some European countries towards human rights.

Iran’s foreign ministry stressed that these countries lack “legitimacy and competence” to make human rights claims, given their unilateral and coercive methods, which also violate the sovereignty of other countries.

Colonna spoke on Monday in a session of the French legislature, during which he said that the situation in Iran “requires responsible action”, adding that the European Union is working to impose new sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Also in the same session, French deputies approved a resolution condemning Iran’s response to protests in the country following the killing of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini, who died in a Tehran hospital on September 16, a few days after collapsing in a station of police.

Protests erupted in Iran after Amini’s death. Tehran has accused the United States and some other countries of “inciting riots and supporting terrorists” in Iran.
