Investigation Reveals Poor Conditions in High Schools of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region

A few months ago, the elected representatives of the left-wing groups (ecologist, PS, PCF-LFI and PRG) of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region presented in their respective departments their “Mission Lycées” operation, intended to collect testimonies from students, parents, teachers and educational staff to take stock of the area’s high schools.

They had towed in front of 95 establishments to call for responses to a questionnaire on an online platform, between last March and June. More than 5,700 people responded, including 2% of high school students.

On November 8, a public meeting via Zoom

The time for results has arrived. On November 8 at 8:30 p.m., after the fall holidays, a report on the investigation will be made for the general public, via a public meeting on Zoom. The anonymized data can nevertheless already be consulted on the site (https://missionlycees.fr).

But to anticipate November 8, the media have already been able to consult the illustrated report. Because yes, as an example of the damage observed, respondents sent photos of damaged toilets, walls in dirty condition, water leaks, and unappetizing dishes served in the canteen. We can even see the glass of a window repaired with adhesive…

More than 50% of people who responded said “being too hot in the summer and too cold in the winter” and the same percentage spoke of a “critical state” of the sanitary facilities.

Opposition elected officials are therefore calling for urgent measures for certain high schools in “very poor condition”.

During the plenary assembly, President Laurent Wauquiez (LR) however expressed doubts about the seriousness of this investigation, emphasizing the few responses from high school students.
