The judicial investigation into cheating at the fashion group FNG is in the doldrums. The investigating judge can no longer seriously continue the multi-million-dollar investigation due to a lack of police investigators, De Tijd reports.

The FNG file is one of the most important financial and economic criminal investigations that the court is currently conducting in our country. 74 civil parties have already come forward and hundreds of millions of euros are at stake. But the investigating judge, Theo Byl, has sounded the alarm behind the scenes because there is such a lack of investigators that he can no longer conduct the investigation seriously.

Byl, together with a team of specialized investigators, had to find out whether there was market manipulation, forgery, use of false documents, misuse of company assets and the prevention of an investigation by the stock market supervisor FSMA. During that investigation, indications of money laundering also emerged. At least 110 million euros would have been funneled away from the bankrupt fashion group.

At the moment, the judicial investigation is mainly aimed at tracing the assets that have been funneled away. But the ‘asset investigation’ has not been started, while it is crucial to be able to obtain serious forfeitures at the end of the ride.

Several bourgeois parties, which have suffered major damage as a result of the debacle, have already expressed their concerns about the sluggish investigation.
