Investigation into explosion in Groningen flat completed, homes released | NOW

The investigation into the explosion in a flat in Groningen last Friday was completed, reports the law enforcement Sunday evening on Twitter. The residents are allowed to return home.

The explosive substances found in the flat on the Wibenaheerd have been removed.

Earlier in the evening, the police said that the residents would not be able to return home in the night from Sunday to Monday. The investigation by the Explosives Ordnance Disposal Service (EOD) would take longer.

However, around 10 p.m., police reported that the vacated homes have already been released anyway, as it is safe to enter the complex. If they wish, the approximately fifty residents who have been evacuated can return home. They can also stay at a reception location the next night.

Two people slightly injured

Two people were slightly injured in the explosion on Friday evening. The fire brigade said that the explosion was caused by a faulty oven, but that turned out to be incorrect.

The EOD found an explosive substance in an apartment in the complex on Saturday, after which the police arrested the two residents. They have since been interrogated at the police station.

The explosive was defused in the night from Saturday to Sunday near Groningen.
