Employees of the State Forestry in Omurtag were used as construction workers in the construction of the villa of their boss – the director of the farm Krasimir Nikolov. The forest rangers worked on their boss’s private site for nearly a year. Neighbors of the forest chief alerted us to this.
According to them, he used his subordinates as general construction workers, coming to work at the cottage in company cars, SUVs and pickup trucks from the forestry department. They used them to transport the materials for the construction and that with state gasoline.
“In 2019, the director of the State Forestry “Omurtag” Krasimir Nikolov bought a property with an old house. After that, in the aftermath – 5 cars of Forestry “Omurtag” and employees were used as construction workers and built a house for him during working hours”, said one of Nikolov’s neighbors – Boryana Hristova.

“It was almost daily. They also came here with carts, mixing concrete, building. They worked all day. He would come and see how far they had come. If they are not made by their director, who will come here for charity?”, she also commented.
Another of the neighbors – Emil Yanchev, also confirms that he has seen them many times. “I’m against using the workers’ labor as well as gasoline because they use the cars and jeeps,” he points out.
A NOVA team easily identified that the jeeps and pickups filmed being used in the construction of the boss’s villa were official. We took the photos with the cars parked in front of the chief’s villa and went to the official parking lot of the State Forestry, where we found all the government jeeps and pickups photographed.
There is one more fact confirming the words of the neighbors of the forest chief. After their report to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, a file was opened, an investigation and interrogations were conducted. The local prosecutor’s office found no crime. However, in his decree refusing to institute pre-trial proceedings, the prosecutor wrote: “According to the file, it was established that after the purchase of the above-mentioned property from Krasimir Nikolov, on different days, during working hours and during non-working hours, they worked on it”, listed five names and continues: “- all employees of the State Forestry “Omurtag”.

All of them have been questioned and given explanations about the activities they carried out in the construction of their director’s villa.
We found Krasimir Nikolov in his already built villa in the company of his wife, who is a police investigator, and a visiting local businessman.
“I want to explain that 90% of forestry employees are on irregular working hours. You haven’t inquired that some of them have their security areas here. I have no comment on the subject,” said Nikolov.
According to him, the file proving that he used his employees from the State Forestry “Omurtag” as workers at his villa was sent by the Prosecutor’s Office by jurisdiction to his superiors in the North-Eastern State Forestry Enterprise, under whose subordination is the Forestry in Omurtag.
Because of the scandal, they simply dismissed him from his position, but did not discipline him. Shortly after that, the bosses of the South-Eastern State Forestry Enterprise appointed him as the director of Omurtag’s neighbor – Ticha State Forestry. That is, in the same position, in the neighboring forestry. According to his neighbors, this did not change the forest director’s habits.
