Investigation after the mysterious suicide of a doctor at the American Hospital in Neuilly

The suicide of a doctor at the American Hospital of Paris, in Neuilly-sur-Seine, is now the subject of a judicial investigation. A few months after the widow’s complaint was lodged, the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office entrusted the investigations to the crime repression brigade to persons (BRDP) of the Paris judicial police. The challenge: to establish whether or not the doctor has suffered harassment from his superiors, to the point of breaking down and committing the irreparable.

This resuscitator anesthesiologist – whose widow wishes to remain anonymous and refuses to speak out – had been practicing for almost seven years at the American Hospital, this establishment prized by the international elite. A practitioner recognized for his vast skills, he was also greatly appreciated by his colleagues.

The weekend of February 16, the doctor is on call. According to the account of his widow in France Info, he could not take any more “of all this pressure” and told her, shortly before, that he wanted to “leave this hospital”. He had to take care of his guard, join his family on vacation and planned to “talk calmly about it” with her.

But the doctor gave no more sign of life. His body was found on Sunday February 16 in his car, in the forest of Montmorency (Val-d’Oise). The doctor self-administered a lethal injection, according to the findings of the autopsy.

“Total misunderstanding”

After the shock of the disappearance of her husband, the widow tried to discuss with the management of the hospital, which assembled “an internal commission”, whose conclusions “were given to the family”, indicates the establishment this Wednesday. Conclusions which obviously did not satisfy her since the widow decided to file a complaint for professional harassment last June, at the Neuilly police station. The prosecution opened an investigation, initially carried out by the police station, before being entrusted to the BRDP.
