Introducing an electric vehicle super fast charger… 3 times faster from next year

[시사토픽뉴스]The Ministry of Environment announced that more than 70 units of 350kW class super-fast chargers that can be charged three times faster than those installed so far will be built in public-private partnerships at major highway rest areas nationwide.

It took about an hour to charge 80% of an electric vehicle battery capable of driving about 400km with the 100kW class quick charger that has been installed so far.

However, if a 350kW super-fast charger is installed in the future, it can be charged in about 20 minutes, and the charging speed will be significantly improved.

In addition, the Ministry of Environment is planning to install various types of slow chargers, such as outlet type and street light type, in addition to the independent slow charger that has been mainly installed.

Electric vehicle chargers were installed in new apartments from the beginning, but it was difficult to install electric vehicle chargers in already built apartments and residential areas due to lack of parking space, etc.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment plans to supply 220V outlets to existing apartments with an outlet type with a charging function, and install a streetlight type with an electric vehicle charger added to the streetlights in residential areas to operate in conjunction with the residents’ priority parking area.

Through this, the plan is to drastically increase the purchase demand so that people who have been hesitant to purchase electric vehicles due to charging problems will not have any inconvenience in driving.

The Ministry of Environment plans to invest 92.3 billion won next year to expand electric vehicle chargers in place.

Currently, there are 62,789 common chargers installed, which is not insufficient considering the supply of electric vehicles (134,430 units).* They are mainly installed in public facilities where land is easy to secure, and existing apartments lack chargers in old downtown areas. Residents were inconvenient to charge.

Accordingly, the Ministry of Environment will mainly build about 1,600 rapid chargers at more accessible mobile stations such as highway rest areas, national roadside gas stations, and gas stations and charging stations in the city.

In addition, more than 8,000 slow chargers are built around residential areas and workplaces where they stay for a long time to improve the convenience of haptic charging.

On the other hand, the Ministry of Environment and related organizations visit the Eumseong Rest Area on the Jungbu Expressway, which is the construction site of the 350kW class super-fast charger, on December 17 to jointly check the installation plan.

Hwang Seok-tae, head of the Life Environment Policy Division of the Ministry of Environment, said, “In the situation where electric vehicles and electric vehicle chargers are spread over a certain level, it is important to build them in a suitable place in consideration of the characteristics of each type of charger and the penetration rate of electric vehicles.” It is time to actively work on building facilities (infrastructure).”
