“Intermarché Cyclist Continues Giro d’Italia Despite COVID-19: No Symptoms Reported”

Not everyone who has Covid decides to leave the Giro, at least for now. That’s what happens with the Norwegian Sven Erik Bystrøm, from Intermarché-Wanty. “After consulting our medical team with the clinical director of the organization and the UCI, and in accordance with the medical protocol of the UCI, Sven Erik Bystrøm will continue on the Tour of Italy”, revealed the team where Rui Costa competes. The team adds that “Sven Erik Bystrøm underwent several medical examinations that did not reveal any symptoms or contraindications to the practice of sports. Therefore, he will start stage 10 on Tuesday”.

Sven Erik Bystrøm occupies the 109th position overall, more than an hour behind the current leader, Geraint Thomas.

It is recalled that several cyclists have already abandoned the Giro due to Covid, among them Filippo Ganna (Ineos), Rigoberto Urán (EF) and Remco Evenepoel (Soudal), this one after having recovered the pink jersey.
