Intel puts new discrete Iris Xe Max GPU in three laptops and details – Computer – News

I don’t quite see the point of it. This GPU is identical to the GPU that is already in the 11xx series mobile processors. There is no way to make these two identical GPUs work together. It is either one or the other who takes care of the graphic work, not at the same time as, for example, with crossfire or sli.

The only advantage there is is that the separate GPU gets its own memory and its own power / temperature budget. That can ensure that things run a little better with that separate GPU than with the integrated GPU, but that really isn’t going to be a big difference, especially since you get almost the same result if the OEM sets up the system with the TDP-up power budget. (28W) instead of the standard TDP. Any OEM can use the chips in this way, all that is needed is a system that can supply sufficient power and dissipate sufficient heat. The OEM then saves a chip, needs a slightly lower power supply and cooling capacity than the combination of 11xx-CPU with the standard TDP and this specific separate Intel GPU and you only sacrifice a very small amount of graphics speed (both GPUs are practical identical, max 25% faster) while the price of the system can be significantly lower (smaller integrated PSU on the mobo, less cooling, fewer peripheral components, the mobo itself becomes smaller, less total cooling required, etc …)

Intel itself indicates that they do not see this as a separate GPU, but more as an accelerator card. For this series of CPUs, nvidia has released the MX450 series as a combination entry-level GPU, which is a lot faster than the MX350, so the benchmarks actually compare with the entry GPUs of the previous generation (for the 10xx (x) series) .

So you will be better off with a laptop that costs € 50 more with an MX450 if you are in the market for a laptop with an entry-level GPU, or else just no separate GPU and just the integrated GPU (which is almost identical on this specific separate GPU) and save € 50 or spend it on a better / larger SSD or something similar.

As far as I am concerned, it falls a bit between the shore and the ship, this Intel GPU in its loose form. In terms of integrated GPU, it is a fantastic advance over. the previous generation.
