Institutions receive donation from the Avon Promise Against Breast Cancer program – Spanish Version

Guatemala. Productos Avon made the donation of the Avon Promise Against Breast Cancer Program in Guatemala, to the following institutions: the Institute for Research in Genetic and Metabolic Diseases -INVEGEM-, the Foundation of Friends against Cancer -FUNDECAN- and the Guatemalan Foundation for Friendly Hands Lymphedema.

Avon in Guatemala has delivered more than 12 million Quetzales to the cause in our country, the funds are obtained from the sale of Pink Products in Avon brochures and from the proceeds of the Avon Walk Race.

During the month of August 2020 Avon made the Call for this program to all Guatemalan institutions to present their projects focused on the pillars: Promotion of research in relation to breast cancer, Empowerment of women for decision-making focused on the timely detection of breast cancer, Strengthening of care systems in health centers that care for patients with breast cancer, and Support for comprehensive care for women diagnosed with breast cancer.

The projects of the institutions benefiting from the program were evaluated by a group of professional experts on this subject.

This year the selected projects are:

  • Detection of Germ Pathogenic variants for Hereditary Breast Cancer Syndrome, in favor of INVEGEM by Q186,202.84.
  • Treatment of Radiotherapies for patients suffering from Breast Cancer located in the Republic of Guatemala, aged 30 to 60 years – Phase III, in favor of Fundecan for Q105,181.74
  • Rehabilitation of patients affected by Lymphedema, in favor of the Guatemalan Foundation for Lymphedema Manos Amigas Q94,281.79

The Donation was delivered by Patricia Montepeque Reputation and Corporate Communication Manager of Avon Products for Central America and the Dominican Republic to Dr. Mauricio Villegas Fortuny, Manager of INVEGEM’s Laboratory Technical Unit. Also received the donation Licda. Jessica Mayén, representative of FUNDECAN and Licda. Mónica Orozco president of the Guatemalan Foundation for Lymphedema Manos Amigas, who showed their commitment to continue working in the prevention of breast cancer.

“How happy to be able to continue helping so many people with the contribution we are receiving from Avon. It is a commitment for us to continue to know the genetic behavior of breast cancer in Guatemala and to be able to give different lights to combat and prevent this very frequent disease. I invite other institutions to participate in the 2021 call that begins in July of this year and thus continue helping Guatemalan women ”.
