The data of the Sălaj Public Health Directorate show that sexually transmitted diseases are still present in society, despite all the preventive measures and campaigns promoted for years and years. The latest DSP report shows that, fortunately, the incidence of sexually transmitted diseases is decreasing from year to year in Sălaj.

According to official information, three cases of syphilis were reported in Sălaj in 2019, six cases were confirmed in 2020, and three cases were diagnosed in 2021. According to official information, syphilis is a sexually transmitted infection. The main route of transmission is through sexual contact, but it can also be passed from mother to fetus during pregnancy or birth, resulting in congenital syphilis. Symptoms differ: ulceration, rash on the palms of the hands and soles of the feet, neurological or cardiac symptoms. Detection of the disease is usually done by a serological test, but the bacteria can also be seen under a microscope. Syphilis can be effectively treated with antibiotics, the preferred method being the intramuscular administration of the antibiotic.
