Injured in protests against the Peruvian government | Abroad

Violent clashes between protesters and security forces have broken out again amid new protests against the Peruvian government. Three officers were injured and were flown to the capital Lima for treatment.

Protests in the country flared up again on Wednesday. Since then more than 40 people have been injured, the health ministry said.

Protesters threw stones at police on Friday. They also attempted to storm the Juliaca airport, a radio station reported. Police fired tear gas at the crowd.

The protests are aimed at the president Dina Boluarte, who came to power after the ouster of her predecessor Pedro Castillo. Protesters are calling for the resignation of Boluarte, the dissolution of parliament and the release of former president Castillo.

Castillo, a former teacher in the village, wanted to prevent a no-confidence vote in December and dissolved parliament. But then he was removed from his position. He was arrested on charges of attempted coup and is still in custody. His supporters have taken to the streets several times since his arrest. More than 20 people were killed in clashes with police.
