A film about the life of blues legend BB King will go into production next year. The organization that manages his cultural heritage announced this this weekend. It is a different project than the film in which Wendell Pierce will play the musician.
Pierce announced on Twitter last week that he is playing the role of BB King in a new film. The next day, he followed up with a tweet explaining that it was not a biopic. “The BB King estate has asked me to make it clear that The Thrill Is On is not a biopic in the traditional way. It’s a dramatized version of the real friendship between two people, one of which is the King of Blues . “
The The Wire actor also said that he will nevertheless do his best to honor the musician. “As I said before, and nothing has changed: I promised BB King before his death that I will honor him and his creative genius. He was an American icon.”
King passed away in 2015 at the age of 89 and is regarded as one of the most influential and respected blues musicians ever. He was active for more than sixty years and made more than forty studio albums during that period. He has won fifteen Grammy Awards and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award. In 1987 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
