Ingenious WhatsApp trick for sending photos

Those who send their photos in this way are tricking an annoying restriction of the messenger service.

If you want to send really nice photos via WhatsApp, it is not recommended to use the camera app of the messenger service. As reported, this offers a significantly poorer quality than the camera function of the smartphone. The WhatsApp camera is sufficient for snapshots, but if you want more, you have to fall back on an alternative.

WhatsApp also compresses attached photos

There are two options here. On the one hand, you can send photos taken with the smartphone camera as attachments from the gallery on WhatsApp. All you have to do is click on the paper clip symbol in the chat field and select the item “Gallery”. Here you will find all the photos that you took with the smartphone camera. But here too there are still limitations in terms of quality. In order to use less storage space and data, WhatsApp also compresses these photos. Although they are significantly better than those that are recorded directly via the camera function of the messenger service, they are still significantly worse compared to the uncompressed images of the smartphone camera.

Trick the compression function

However, there is a trick that can be used to bypass the compression feature entirely. To do this, you first have to click on the symbol with the paper clip in the chat. There you don’t choose “Gallery” but the option “Document”. All files stored on the smartphone are displayed here in a list view. All photos are marked with a small JPG or PNG symbol. There is also a search function. If you attach the desired photo using the document function, it will not be compressed. So the recipient gets the desired picture in the best quality. Of course, this is particularly noticeable on expensive smartphones that have a very good camera.
