ING Bank Śląski. CSIRT KNF warns against emails from fraudsters

The cybersecurity team at the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (CSIRT KNF) warns against fraudsters pretending to be ING Bank Śląski. Cyber criminals in e-mails send information that security services have not been activated.

In the latest post on Twitter, CSIRT KNF warns “against fake e-mails in which the fraudsters impersonate @ING__Polska”. “In the body of the message they say that the security service has not been activated, in fact the link that is being sent leads to a fake bank website that steals passwords. Don’t get robbed!” – we read.

Attached to the alert is a screenshot of an example email from fraudsters. “Our system recognizes that you have not yet activated our new security service Moje ING Mobile, so you can easily manage your ING account” – we read in the message (original spelling). Attached to the message is a link to the alleged activation of the application.

Fraudsters pretend to be banks

A few days ago, CSIRT KNF informed about a similar campaign in which the scammers pretend to be PKO BP. Earlier, Santander Bank Polska warned that fraudsters sent messages on social media and pretended to be a bank. Criminals encouraged investment, which was supposed to bring high earnings. There is also a new one cheating “on Blik”.

The data confirm that the fraudsters are more active. According to the report of the National Bank of Poland, 7,709 frauds using credit transfers were recorded in the third quarter of 2021, an increase of 53.6 percent compared to the second quarter. It is about the situation of unauthorized access to the account and the execution of transfers by fraudsters, for example after the computer has been infected with malware or the customer has been swallowed with login data.

The total amount of fraudulent credit transfers was close to PLN 32 million in the third quarter alone.
