The D-League, which was officially renamed the Gatorade League or “G League”, was the springboard for some NBA stars – but all the more a dead end for ambitious athletes. NBA G League – what is it?
In the NBA G League, the “farm teams” of the NBA franchises play to give the youngsters and substitutes time and practice. The G League is officially sponsored by the NBA and was founded in 2001 under the name NBA D-League.
New name: Why is the D-League now called the G League?
Gatorade secured the naming rights to the NBA Development League as part of a partnership with the NBA. Therefore, the D-League is officially called the NBA Gatorade League, or G League for short, from the 2017/18 season.

Which NBA professionals have played in the D-League?
In the 2016/17 season there were 135 players with experience from the D-League in the ranks of the NBA teams, that is around 30 percent. Some professionals were “parked” only for times in the lower league, while other players only came to the NBA through their performances in the D-League. A well-known example of this is Danny Green, who even became an integral part of the San Antonio Spurs and won a championship in 2014.

What do players earn in the NBA G League?
The G League has had a new salary structure since the 2016/17 season. Before there were three, there are now only two salary levels. If a player receives the B level, they are entitled to $ 19,500 annually, and A $ 26,000. The salary cap is $ 209,000 per team.
What is a two-way contract?

The schedule of the G League season 2017/18
Each team completes 50 season games in the regular season. The regular season begins in November and continues until April 2018. The schedule for the 2017/18 season has not yet been published.

What does the G League playoff mode look like?
The G League playoffs begin in April and consist of three rounds, each played in best-of-three mode.
The all-star game of the G League 2018
The G League All Star Game has been taking place as part of the NBA All Star Weekend since 2007. This year, the Staples Center in Los Angeles will host the NBA All Star Weekend on February 17th and 18th.
Where can you see the NBA G League on TV or livestream?
With the exception of the games shown on national television – usually the games can only be seen on local television – the G League shows all games Facebook Live .
NBA G League and NBA: differences in regulations
The NBA uses the G League to test regulations. In the 2016/17 season, this included the following rules:
The team foul limit in the G League is 5 per quarter (NBA: 4). Means: Only with the sixth team foul there are automatically two free throws
The shot clock is reset to 14 seconds if an offensive rebound is made or if the attacking team gains possession of the ball in another way after the ball has touched the basket. In the NBA there is the full 24 seconds on the shot clock
Additional rules allow the teams to take four full two-minute timeouts and three 30-second timeouts during regular play. In the last two minutes of the regular playing time, in addition to an “advance”, a maximum of only two 30-second timeouts are allowed. Only the attacking team can take the second of two consecutive timeouts, unless a player is injured or an “advance” follows.
