Riga City Council elections: 9 political forces have spent half of the limited campaign expenses – in Riga

According to the information gathered by the Corruption Prevention and Combating Bureau (KNAB), none of the political parties or their associations, as well as a person unrelated to them, has exceeded the amount of limited expenditures for the pre-election campaign.

According to the statements submitted by the KNAB in connection with the placement of pre-election campaign materials in premises and public places, television, radio, press, the Internet, social networks, as well as the use of funds for charity, political parties until this year. As of 5 August, they have concluded contracts for a total of 1,116,537.19 euros.

Currently, the information at the disposal of the KNAB shows that the party “Honor to Serve Riga”, the New Conservative Party and the political party “KPV LV” will spend the most actively on pre-election campaigning so far.

KNAB reminds that until the Riga City Council’s extraordinary elections, parties have a limit on how much money they can spend on advertising, charity and similar events. Each party may spend a maximum of EUR 171,706.89 for these purposes. On the other hand, the campaign spending threshold of a non-party person may not exceed 6450 euros.

KNAB continues to actively follow developments in the public space until the day of the Riga City Council’s extraordinary elections, which is August 29. Among other things, the KNAB monitors whether any violations are allowed, for example, the spending limit is exceeded or which expenditures are not included in the common list of expenditures, as well as whether hidden campaigning is possible.

KNAB calls on residents to report possible violations of pre-election campaigning, incl. cases of covert campaigning in connection with election campaigns conducted or organized by parties.
